Ivy Blue, Griffith Park And The Great Baby Bird Rescue…
Jun.03, 2010
The kitties and I had been lying back, reading about Ultra Violet, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali while relaxing at Griffith Park all morning.
As would be expected after all my coffee & water consumption I had to use the restroom.
What are the chances that the exact stall I chose out of all the options, just happened to have a little baby bird, it’s eyes not even open yet, on the bare cement floor, kicking it’s tiny legs, struggling for life, after it had fallen from the nest embedded in the ceiling?
If you know me at all you know I couldn’t leave it there.
I grabbed a bit of paper from the roll & scooped the little muffin up into my safe, warm hand.
I then walked to the first building I saw where the lady instructed me to go to the ranger station.
When I arrived the nice ladies there told me that if they called animal rescue they would just put my little sugarpop to sleep, but there were a couple places that would take it & nurse it back to health if I were willing to drive it over.
You know I was!
So they called “Karen” from Los Feliz.
She answered, which the ranger said was very unusual as she generally had to leave a message.
I told her it must be fate…she agreed.
And Yay! “Karen” would save my lil cutie pie.
So I drove to this large, beautiful yet, unique home in gorgeous Los Feliz.
As I was driving the lil bird muffin started chirping in my hand!
It was SO Amazing!
I got there and had to be let in, as with most homes, especially large homes in fancy neighborhoods it was all fenced & gated off.
As the gated slowly opened I saw no one so I began walking up the driveway.
Luckily, this eccentric, very sweet woman dressed in what I can only describe as old time western wear, long, blue & white print, ruffled dress, white cowboy boots with long blonde ringlets in her hair walked out of the house & towards me.
She started rubbing it’s little head, took a look & said they all look like the same breed at this age.
Then she called to “Ralph” and said “The Baby Bird Is Here!”
I told her I hadn’t known if I should touch it or not so I wrapped in in the paper.
She called me a “Good Soldier” and said “It Feels Good To Save A Life, Doesn’t It.”
It did, of course, and still does.
Good Luck & Life my tiny, feathered cutie-pie. <3
